Jean Lafern Collier, 79, of Scott City died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 27, 1938, in Cape Girardeau to Doyle Franklin and Ina Jewell Davis Strauser. She married Carmon Collier on April 5, 1953.

She is survived by her husband, Carmon; a son, Carmon "Spank" Collier Jr. of Scott City; three daughters, Karen (Steve) Gentry, Sharon (Jan) Van der Wel and Debbie (Rob) Reddick of Scott City; grandchildren, Katina Stoops, Justin, Adam, Cody, Bayleigh and Jordan Gentry, Donnie (Lyndsey) Wiley, Nance (Mike) Van der Wel, Wesley (Desiree) Van der Wel, Allen (Becky) Collier, Matt (Katie) Collier, Denae (Brandon) Phillips and Mallory (Shawn) Lee; 23 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one great-great-grandchild, with one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Lynn Vetter; two brothers, Dewayne and Dale; and a sister, Doylene.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Rennie Phillips and Mark Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.
