William Shallcross was born in Makefield Township around 1706 to Leonard and Ann Ellet Shallcross. His father was a prominent landowner and Quaker, a member of the Falls Monthly Meeting. He is not often mentioned in records until he marries an older widow, Ruth Palmer Hulme on April 11, 1733, across the Delaware River in New Jersey.

Together, they would have at least three children who survived infancy:
1. William Shallcross (b. 1733)
2. Ann Shallcross (b. 1734)
3. Ruth Shallcross (b.1735)

Initially the blended family would live in Middletown Township before returning to Falls Township in 1735, and Ruth would be an active part of the Falls Monthly Meeting for the next fifteen years. William appears to have died in April of 1749 before his will was proved on May 16th. He was likely buried at the Falls Monthly Meeting Cemetery.
