Lydia was the daughter of Peter Mawney and Mary Tillinghast of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She married in Providence, RI on 10 June 1746, as his second wife, Ephraim BOWEN, b. Rehoboth, MA 3 Oct 1716, d. Providence 26 Oct 1812, the son of Thomas Bowen and Sarah Hunt. On 10 Mar 1743/4 Lydia Mawney signed a deed, suggesting she had reached her majority. Ephraim had married first Mary Fenner, and with her had three children. Lydia and Ephraim then had eleven children:
