Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Allen Burton will be held at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Mancos. Interment will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Burnett, and Rev. Don Henderson will officiate.

Mary was born on May 2, 1925 in Emhouse, Tex. to Charlie Tom and Hattie Myrtle Inez (Hopkins) Allen. She passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 77.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Jimmie Burton of Mancos; two children; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Women's Missionary Union Foundation, P.O. Box 11346, Birmingham, AL 35282-8564.

On May 8, 1942 in Corsicana, Tex., Mary married the Rev. Jimmie Dee Burton. She maintained a strong and active life within her faith. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, and presided as president for five years. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Organization and a member of the First Baptist Church of Mancos. Mary loved to cook, and share recipes. She was always a gracious host and decorator in the church and in her home.

Her beloved husband, the Rev. Jimmie Burton of Mancos; her children, James (Janet) Allen Burton of Ventura, Calif., and Mary Ann Sanders of Cortez, Colo. survive Mary. She leaves her grandchildren, Ronald (Melissa) Biles of Mansfield, Tex., Jason (Elaine) Biles of Arlington, Tex., Gregory Burton of Rapid City, S.D., Bonnie Burton of Ventura, Calif., and Jared Sanders of Cortez; and her great-granddaughter Hannah Biles of Arlington, Tex.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her six brothers, and one sister; her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Biles, and Nancy's husband, Raymond Biles.

Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
