Mayor Elmer B. Lee Funeral Held In Washtucna on Friday

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Byron A. Travis at the Washtucna Community Church Friday afternoon, Sept. 4, for Elmer Bud Lee who suffered a fatal heart attack Wednesday morning, after having been in poor health for the past few years.

Bud, as he was known to everyone in the community, was born October 10, 1917, in Fisher, Minn., one of 13 children. He had lived in this community for some 29 years.

He was married Jan. 20, 1946 to Betty Ann Klee of Washtucna. Bud was a member of the Washtucna Community Church where he served as elder for eight years and was clerk of session. Always taking an active part in the life of the church he had been Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher in the adult class and the Junior Department and was a member of the choir. For 20 years he worked at the school where he was bus driver, custodian, was substitute shop teacher for a time and coached the girl's basketball team for several years.

Since 1956, Bud had served as Mayor of Washtucna. Bud served his country during World War II, entering the Army on May 28, 1942, and receiving his discharge Dec. 20, 1945. He was Tech. Third Grade with Hdqs., in the Battles of Ardennes and Rhineland in Central Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star, European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Evelyn Krenelka, East Grand Forks, Minn.; five brothers, Raymond, Cecil and Clifford of Grand Forks, N.D.; Harvey of Crookston, Minn., and Willis of Foxhome, Minn. Pallbearers were Fred Blauert, Sid Sullivan, Ernie Stoess, Frank Stuart, Jim Woodyard, and Richard Griffin. Mrs. F. R. West was the organist. Helping usher were Walt Gray, Dwayne Blankenship Jr., Wilmer Kiesz, Rex Dainty and Bennie Sitton.
