Findagrave.com volunteer Caryn Hood supplied the following information from the HISTORY OF DAVIESS AND GENTRY COUNTIES:

W. T. Brown, a prominent and successful stock buyer of Jamesport, and owner of 240 acres of land in Jamesport Twp., was born Aug. 29, 1853, in Grand River Twp., one of 13 children of Moses BROWN and Elizabeth WILES.

He grew up on his father's farm in Daviess Co. He farmed following his marriage in Lincoln Twp., for about 20 years, after which, in about 1897, he moved to Jamesport, where he purchased 240 acres of land adjoining the northern city limits. Here Mr. Brown successfully engaged in buying and shipping stock to all parts of the country.

On Feb. 22, 1873, Mr. Brown married Susan CROY, a native of Grand River Twp., a daughter of Alex CROY and Sophia RAILSBACH. To this union one child was born, Mary, wife of D. T. Reed, Jamesport Twp., Daviess Co.

A Republican, Mr. Brown served as justice of the peace in Lincoln Twp. and was a stockholder of the Commercial Bank of Jamesport, as well as a deacon of the Baptist church.
