Pat graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1950 and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He married Laura Ann Hansen on February 23, 1952 and together they made their home in Big Rapids. Pat worked as a police officer for the Big Rapids City Police Department for over 31 years, serving as their Chief for the last 13 years of his career. He retired in 1989.
Pat was very active in the Big Rapids community belonging to several clubs and associations including; the BPO Elks Lodge # 947, the Michigan Association of Police Chiefs, the Mecosta County Community Corrections Board and the Board of Review for the City of Big Rapids. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. Since his retirement, Pat became a dedicated member of Currie's Coffee Club, where he helped solve many of the world's problems.
Pat is survived by his wife of 55 years, Laura Alber of Big Rapids; daughter, Sue (Paul) Vickery of Grand Rapids, a son, Patrick (Vicki) Alber of Rodney, four grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Marge) Alber of Stanwood, Frank Alber of Hastings; two Sisters, Nancy Barnett of Independence, Missouri, Connie (Tom) Moore of Cody, Wyoming, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in Pat's name may be made to the Big Rapids Elks Club for their many worthy charities.
