Arthur William Abram

1931 – 2016

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Art Abram on August 14, 2016 at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

Art was a kind and loving family man who lived by the Golden Rule. Through his integrity, and humble and gentle manner, his life left an unforgettable imprint on those he touched. Unfailing in his devotion to his wife, Art expressed his love and respect daily, making Lou feel adored, safe and worthy. An affectionate father and friend to his daughters, he nurtured and guided them by example, always making them feel important and loved. Forever a hard worker, Art was the first to lend a hand with his limitless talents whether to help family, friends or his community. Art was a warm and compassionate man, his glass half full attitude never wavered as his body failed.

Art was born in Lamont, Alberta and grew up in Fort Saskatchewan, eventually moving to Edmonton as a young adult. He worked for the City of Edmonton where he met and married his best friend, Lou, to whom he was married for 64 years. The couple, along with Lou’s family, moved to the Ashcroft area in 1952 until 1961 when they moved to Vernon. Art initially operated a service station and later drove a fuel truck for BA which became Gulf and then PetroCan. Art embraced an early retirement to spend more time with Lou and pursue his passions – nature, travel, snowmobiles, motorbikes and eventually quads. Together, they travelled extensively with truck and trailer or motorhome from Alaska down through the south western US states. Along with jaunts to Hawaii, Panama, Scotland and Cuba, retirement was never still.

Art will be forever missed by his wife, Lou, the love of his life; daughter, Allana and grandchildren, Kiefer and Chloe of Surrey; and daughter, Connie of North Vancouver. He is further survived by his sister Donna of Maple Ridge and brothers, Murray (Bonnie) of 16 Mile and Warren (Gracie) of Cache Creek.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Heinz Raupach for his ongoing care and to Dr. Roux and the compassionate staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

A Celebration of Life for Art will be held on September 17, 2016 at 11:00am at the Army & Navy Club (2500 – 46 Avenue, Vernon, BC). Special stories of Art will be welcome at the memorial. As an expression of sympathy, those wishing may make a donation in memory of Art to the North Okanagan Valley Gleaners Society (4405B – 29 Street, Vernon, BC V1T 5B7).
