Born in Missouri in 1882, by 1886 his family had moved to Nebraska, where his younger brothers James, Marshall, Loid, and his younger sister Emily were born. They were raised in the Strang, Nebraska area and he married Amy Gilbert in 1903. His daughter Eva, and sons Francis and Roland were born in Nebraska. He and his wife Amy divorced and by 1918, he had joined his parents and younger siblings who had Los Angeles County in California. He worked as an auto mechanic for many years. By 1920, he moved to Ripon in northern California and married Belle Haynes. For at least 35 years, he was a rancher in the Manteca area. By 1960, he was divorced again and entered his third marriage to Pearl Rosencrans. They divorced in 1966. He ended up at Napa State Hospital for psychosis due to cerebral arterioschlerosis and died of lung cancer.
