William Henry Harrison Keyes (he went by Harrison) was born 20 Nov 1812 in New London, Huron, Ohio to Francis Keyes and Temperance (Sanders) Keyes. His mother, Temperance, died of consumption when he was 6 years old and is buried in New London, Ohio. Harrison had 3 siblings: Ursula Keyes, 21 Jan 1804; Mary Keyes, 2 Jun 1808; Perry Keyes, Apr 1815.
Harrison married Eliza Ann Herrick, 18 Apr 1834 in Cambridge, Herkimer, New York. Harrison and Eliza joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints early in the churches beginning. They lived through the violence and persecution of the Mormons in Ohio, Missouri and Illinois, finally being forced to flee their home in Illinois in the dead of winter.
While living in Missouri his father Francis and brother Perry were beaten and whipped by anti-Mormon mobs. His father was beaten with the ram-rod of a musket and Perry was whipped along with a friend while looking for wild horses. They were told if they didn't get out of Missouri they would be killed.
During these times they had 10 children: Howard Keyes, 14 Apr 1835 died 15 Nov 1836 in Clay county Missouri; William Henry Keyes, 15 Apr 1837 died 15 Sep 1838 in Caldwell county Missouri; Alma Keyes, 10 Aug 1839 in Adams county, Illinois; Sarah Elizabeth Keyes, 6 Oct 1841; Edward Keyes, 15 Aug 1844; Lyman Keyes, 29 Jul 1847 born in Pisqah, Harrison, Iowa. This was where the Mormons fled to after being forced from the Nauvoo, Illinois area. Alpheretta Ophelia Keyes, 27 Nov 1849 Holt county Missouri, Joseph Franklin Keyes, 29 Jun 1852 in Ogden, Utah; Lemuel Harrison Keyes, Lane county, Oregon; Francis Marion Keyes, 16 Dec 1856 in Lane county, Oregon.
Harrison was serving a mission for the church in Oregon with his family and that was why some of his children were born there. There was hostility against Mormons in Oregon also. While chopping wood at his home, Harrison had the axe shot from his hands from someone he never saw.
They eventually moved back to Ogden, Utah where Harrison died 9 May 1895 and was buried 11 May 1895.
