She was born Tuesday, October 25th, 1932 at her family home in Loysburg, a daughter of the late Fred Friend Steele and Martha Elizabeth (Hetrick) Steele.
She is survived by her sister and caretaker, Eleanor M. Foreman of Everett and her son Jeffrey L. Hawkins,
Two brothers, Ivan A. Steele and wife Dee of Lancaster, and Marlin L. Steele and wife Bonnie of McConnellsburg,
A sister-in-law, Patricia Mock of Bedford, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was prceded in passing away by a nephew Ray Hawkins, and three brothers, Fred E. Steele, Galen D. Steele and his wife Betty, and Ross C. Steele.
In her younger years, Jean attended the Koontz Church of the Brethren in Loysburg. She was a graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1950, an was employed as an administrative assistant at Bedford Lumber, Hedstrom Inc., and at the Howard Johnsons Commissary in Bedford until retiring.
An avid photographer, Jean was a member of the Bedford Photography Club where she served as treasurer and secretary for many years. She enjoyed caring for her pet cats and would always take in and care for stray cats. A loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend, she will be truly missed for her caring ways and the love she shared with so many.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, February 26th, 2020 at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett.
