State Journal-Register, The (Springfield, IL) - July 12, 1999 Deceased Name: Mary L. Brooks KANE Mary Lois Brooks, 87, of Kane died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Jerseyville Manor.
She was born March 12, 1912, west of Kane, the daughter of Henry and Tina Reno Brooks.
Miss Brooks was a 1928 graduate of Jerseyville High School, attended MacMurray College, graduated in 1942 from the University of Illinois, received her master's degree from Northwestern University in 1948 and completed an additional year's work at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She taught elementary school in Alton, Beardstown, Blue Mound and Barrington for 41 years.
She was a member of the Alton Retired Teachers Association for almost 40 years, an active member of the Kane United Methodist Church, where she served as the church organist for many years, an active member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star at Kane.
Survivors: five nephews, Henry (wife, Eva) Brooks of Jerseyville, Robert (wife, Mary Virginia) Brooks of St. Louis, Wayne (wife, Sherry) Brooks of Centralia, Delbert (wife, Ruth) Brooks of Fosterburg and Louis (wife, Anita) Brooks of Davenport, Iowa; and a niece, Ruth Ann (husband, Myrle) Gilbert of Greenfield.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Kane United Methodist Church. Burial: Kane Cemetery.
