Robert Rogers Thompson was the son of George Davenport Thompson of Georgia and Emily L.J. Edwards of South Carolina. All of George's and Emily's children were born in Georgia except Robert, who was born in Texas, possibly in McLennan County. In 1880 George and Emily Thompson lived in Forsyth County, Georgia. By 1894, they had arrived in Texas, probably McLennan County, which is where they lived in 1900. Shortly after 1900, they moved to Van Zandt County, where Robert married Maggie Ora Groom on 5-24-1914. Robert and Ora lived in Van Zandt County the remainder of their lives.
