Eugene Ronald Piwowar, 86, of West Babylon, joined his beloved wife, Magda, in eternal life on July 10, 2020. The youngest of seven siblings, Eugene was born on November 7, 1933, in Lackawanna, New York, where graduated from Lackawanna High School. During his high school career, Eugene excelled in football, basketball, and golf. After graduation, Eugene joined the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country for four years during the Korean conflict and an additional four years in the Navy Reserve. After his naval career, Eugene was training as a pilot before he began his career at Grumman Aerospace, where he was involved in several major projects, most notably as a supervisor in the building of the original L.E.M. (Lunar Excursion Models) that landed on the moon in 1969. During his years in Grumman, Eugene continued to golf as a member of the Grumman Golf Team, where he won numerous tournaments, in addition to winning numerous trophies while competing individually. Following his retirement from Grumman, Eugene resumed his interest in gardening as well as traveling with his wife, Magda, while also starting a second career with the West Babylon School District where he was a school bus driver. Eugene's calm demeanor, sense of humor and generosity will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
