A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Chambersburg October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service there November 4 as a private with Co. B, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg.
By 1870, he was working as an auctioneer. Cause of death in 1907 was due to "right hemiplegia from cerebral hemorrhage" with "age and exhaustion" contributing factors.
