Jeanne LaVerne Sterling (nee Fazey), 96, of Vermilion, died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Mill Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

She was born September 16, 1921 in South Amherst and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 64 years, moving from Arizona.

Jeanne worked as the head cashier for A&P in Vermilion and as a secretary for Doctors Read, Brence, and Rohira. Jeanne and her husband, Andrew were the original owners of the Sail Loft in Vermilion and helped open the first French restaurant, L'Auberge Du Port.

She was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school. Jeanne enjoyed working around her house, traveling, and cooking, especially Mexican food.

She is survived by her daughter, Debora (Robert) Alford of Vermilion; son, Rick (Barbara Harwood) Sterling of Marco Island, FL; grandsons, Joe (Lindsay) Thayer of Lorain and Jeff (Carlee) Thayer of Vermilion; and her great-grandchildren, Regan, Evan, and Wesley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Joseph Sterling in 2000; parents, Fred and Elsie (nee Ball) Fazey; and great-grandson, Jacob Thayer.

Private services will be held with interment at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Main Street Vermilion, 685 Main Street,Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
