Early on the morning of July 07, 2020, Russell (Russ) Hibner left his fierce 16-day battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia for his new life in heaven with the Lord he served his whole life. He was born in San Antonio as the oldest son of Dale and Alta Hibner. Russ grew up as a military kid which inspired his life-long patriotism and love of the military. In 1966 after serving in the Army in Germany, Russ married the love of his life, Linda. Their love affair spans 54 wonderful years. His diverse career included several years with civil service at Randolph AFB and BAMC, Ft. Sam Houston. Even years later Russ was still talking about his rare privilege of being part of the clerical and personnel support for the first Astronaut teams who were selected and trained at Randolph. Russ transferred to BAMC at the height of the Viet Nam War and considered the personnel and payroll work he did with the wounded soldiers a most sacred duty.

In 1991, Russ and Linda took on the adventure of a lifetime as foster parents with Buckner Baptist Benevolences (now Buckner International). Over a nine year period, 50 children were loved, parented, and taught life skills. Russ’ dedication to teaching these young people patriotism and service was rewarded when several of the foster children entered the military and enjoyed successful careers. No matter what he did for a living, Russ merged his heart for service and his love of music by directing church choirs. In the years before his retirement in 2010, Russ was facilities director for larger churches in the Houston and Ft. Worth areas. Russ will be remembered for being the best husband ever, Super dad for his daughters, Papa deluxe to his grands, and a caring friend to many. He was always bigger than life and enjoyed a good laugh.

Russ is predeceased by his parents, Alta and Dale Hibner and his brother Charles Hibner.

Now it's Russ’ turn to "soar on wings like eagles...run and not grow weary, and walk and not be faint."
