COMAIR 5191: A YEAR LATER
Steve McElravy, 57
Hagerstown, Md.
'Can still see ... his face'

Steve McElravy was a longtime social worker who felt a "calling to help" people, brother Bruce McElravy recalled.

When he boarded Flight 5191, he was returning from a conference in Lexington as part of his job at the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

"I'm still wondering why this happened," McElravy said. "There's nothing I can say to change anything or do anything to make it better or worse."

Steve McElravy had long lived in Nebraska, working on substance-abuse prevention, and had returned there about a month before his death to visit an aunt whose husband had recently died. While there, he also met with his brother.

"I was glad to see him then," McElravy said. "I can still see the image of his face in my mind that last time I saw him."

Steve McElravy had two children and a stepdaughter with his current wife and a grown son from a previous marriage, his brother said.
