He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bluefield and the Bluefield Moose Lodge 1079. He was formerly employed by W.R Keesee & Company and Skyline Motors in Bluefield, where he worked as a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by brother, Bruce Aker.
Survivors: wife, Lila Clower Aker; sons, James Denny Aker of Rocky Gap, Va., James Eldridge of Montcalm, Donald Eldridge of Charlotte, N.C. and Roger Eldridge of Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Charlotte Pizzini of Montcalm, Martha Ford, Cammy Nunley and Kathryn Kinzer, all of Bluefield; brothers, Roger M. Aker of Bluefield, Vance A. Aker of Radford, Va. and Kenneth Stuart Aker of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Mildred Aker of Richlands, Va.; 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield, with the Rev. Ken D. Frazier officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell. Friends may call the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m
