Ellsworth Merton Conde was born January 30, 1852, in Indiana, and departed this life at his home in Barnard, Kansas, on July 31, 1936, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 1 day.

He lived at Liberty Mills, Indiana until 16 years of age, when he came to Kansas in a covered wagon with his sister, Mrs. Len Sage, and Frank Penny. He was united in marriage to Sadie Parish on Jun 24, 1885, and to this union were born eight children, in 1907, he was united in marriage to Usla Basnett, who passed away in 1923. On March 21, 1926, he married Etta Silvers.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Smith, of Beavertown, Oregon, and Mrs. Chloe Courtney of Delphos, Kansas, and three sons, Bernie, Roy, and Leonard of Denver, Colo. He has one living brother, Frank, and two half-brothers, John Penny and Arthur Buffington, and one sister, Mrs. Olive Griffin. Eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends also survive.

He united with the M.E. Church in Salina, Kansas, in 1921.

Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our Eternal Home.

Funeral services were conducted at the Barnard M.E. Church by Rev. C.L. Herman, Sunday afternoon, and a short service was held at the graveside in the Delphos Cemetery, where the body was laid to rest.

NB: NOTED by Sandy Sage Carr (47433567): His birthday is really 1862, contrary to obit and recently-placed stone. This is supported by census records as well.
