"Carl W Archer, 84, of Oil City RD 1, died at 12:50 am today, Aug 1, in the Oil City Area Health Center following a short illness. Born Feb 4, 1904, in Fagundus, Forest County, he was a son of Leon and Winson (sic) [Winifred] Smith Archer, and attended the Fagundus schools. Mr Archer worked for Pennzoil Co, for Hunter-Wilson and for Cornplanter Township. He retired as a township employee to own and operate Carl and Mary Archer's Store at Plumer for 28 years. Mr Archer, who was an avid hunter and gardener, was a member of St Venantius Church, Rouseville. He was married Dec 31, 1931, in Mayville, NY, to the former Mary Tamburine who survives. Also surviving are three sons, James V Archer and Carl E Courson, both of Oil City, RD 1, and Joseph Archer of Palatine, Ill; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs John (Thelma) McFadden of Rouseville; Mrs Georgia Brewer and Mrs Philip (Ruth) Scott, both of Oil City. Mr Archer was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Archer, in February 1988, and by two brothers, Edgar and Herman Archer. Friends will be received in the Reinsel Funeral Home, Oil City...A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday in St Venantius, Rouseville, with Father Robert Rarick as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Bishop McManaman Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery, Oil City."
