Georg Jakob Kochersperger came to America on August 3rd, 1829 on the vessel Great Britain, together with his mother, Maria Magdalena, nee Stoetzel, his wife Catherine, nee Eyer, and 3 small children, Georg, Heinrich and Magdalena. They settled among a community of families that hailed from the same region in Alsace. Today the descendants in the male lineage spell the surname as COGANSPARGER. Georg Jakob Kochersperger's grandson, Josiah, joined during the Civial War the 141st Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment and perished at the Battle of Gettysburg, PA on July 2nd, 1863.
