John Durham was the son of Joab L. Durham and Bethern {Hunter} Durham. He was born in Irwin County Georgia, on April 3, 1843. He served in the Confederate Army for the state of Louisiana. He married Mary Catharine Jordan in Pike County, Alabama on Sept. 14, 1865. He left Texas and brought his family to Oklahoma Territory in 1896. His wife, Mary Catharine {Jordan} Durham, who died on 29 Feb. 1929, is buried in the old Quinton Cemetery, Haskell County, OK.
