Wild Willie Gerth escaped his earthly shackles and is now enjoying his eternal reward. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at St. Lambert Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. A graveside service will be approximately 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at Lakeview Cemetery in Clear Lake. Visitation with family present will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. A liturgical wake service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Willis Ralph Gerth was born on October 21, 1942, in Hendricks, Minnesota. He became a mainstay of the Brandt community where he was part of the last graduating class in 1960. He farmed in the Brandt area for over 30 years and was responsible for many shenanigans involving a wide array of exotic animals including buffalo, ostrich, timber wolves, mountain lions, donkeys and many more. His favorite animal was his black bear named Wee Willie who he often took through parades and to the bar where it would sit on a bar stool and drink Coke. In 1995 he moved to Sioux Falls where city ordinances didn't allow the animals, but that didn't slow down his ability to find a good time. He was united in marriage to Kathy "Tweetie" in 1997 and they've been a dynamic duo ever since. They traveled all over the world together including trips to Norway, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and many places across the United States.
Willie wasn't able to say no to work which led to him having up to three jobs at any one time. He drove for Jack Rabbit Bus then ABS. He also drove taxi and was a security guard at Smithfield Foods. Willie and Kathy have been members of St. Lambert Catholic Church for many years. Please donate to your local bar as beer sales in the area will be greatly affected by his passing.
