She was born in Idalou, Texas on February 9, 1935 to W.A. Armstrong and Freda Sprawls Armstrong. Joan attended Idalou High School. She married Eldon Jones in April 1951. They were married 23 years when he passed in 1974. She met Billy Lee Holbert and they were married until he passed in 1983. She met Jerry Lee Cox on a blind date in 1986, and they were together 32 years.
Joan enjoyed being a homemaker and working as a floral designer at Rustic Gardens in Idalou. Joan worked 20 years as a Design-Typesetter for Caprock Business Forms in Lubbock, Texas. Joan was a loving companion, mother and grandmother. Joan’s passions were spending time with family and friends, tending her vegetable gardens, and loving her big ole yellow cat, Bingo. She was a resilient and compassionate woman that was loved by all that knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Thelma Peeples; 3 brothers, Neil Armstrong, Don Armstrong, and K.G. (Buddy) Armstrong; her husband, Eldon Jones, and husband, Billy Lee Holbert; and ; a son in law, SGM Michael D. Smith. It is with great sadness and grief that her beloved partner of 32 years, Jerry Lee Cox, passed away on July 1, 2020.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Elda Smith (Michael Akins), son, Mark Jones, and granddaughter, Lanae Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lanae was the light of her life. She was so very proud to have raised her and loved being with her every day. Joan is also survived by her lifelong companion and friend, Ella Jo Sisk and her children, Kim Sisk Snodgrass, Joe Sisk and Kyle Sisk, all of Idalou. Forever family.
