Son of Henry Southard and Mary Wicks, husband of Lena Range and father of Edith M. (married Arthur Henry Matthias), Harry W. and Elenor R. Southard.

Obituary - Henry Wicks Southard, a native of Babylon, where all of his life had been spent, passed away suddenly on Sunday noon at his home on Smith Street from a heart attack. He had been in frail health for a number of years but was working amid his flowers on his place which was his daily pastime, Saturday afternoon. He was suddenly seized with an attack of angina pectoris on Saturday night and passed away as stated. Mr. Southard was in the seventieth year. He was a son of the late Harry and Mary Wicks Southard. Mr. Southard was for many years employed on the old Thirty-Fourth St. Ferry, New York City, and later was for several years superintendent of the Babylon Union Free School building, retiring a number of years ago in consequences of his health. Before that he held various other positions all of which he held in a manner that reflected his loyalty and devotion to his duties and won for him the respect of his employers and associates. In the community where all his life had been spent, Mr. Southard had the good will and regard of everyone who knew him. He was an upright, industrious citizen, who discharged all duties entrusted him and lived up to the highest code of integrity. He is survived by his wife, formerly Lena Range, a son, Harry W. Southard, of Port Washington, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur H. Matthias, and Miss Eleanor Southard, of Babylon, and a half-brother, John Daniel Oakley, of North Babylon. Funeral services were conducted from the house on Wednesday afternoon by Rev. E. Newman Hogle, pastor of the First Presbyterian, officiating, and interment followed in the family plot in the Babylon Cemetery.
