LEXINGTON – Nolan Samuel Garner, 91, died Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at his residence.
He was born February 23, 1929, in Davidson County and was the son of the late Nereus and Connie Snider Garner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was attached with the Air Force in Okinawa, Japan. Nolan was a skilled woodworker and in 1960 started Pilot View Woodworks. He was a member of Heath Church in Lexington and enjoyed camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruby Shaw Garner; sisters, Ruby Rash, Hazel Snider, Doris Peacock, Virgie Smith, Patty Misenheimer, and Annie Mae Burleson; and brothers, Melvin Garner, Kermit Garner, Clyde Garner, Vernon Garner, Lester Garner, Thurman Garner, Von Thomas Garner, Dewey Garner, Von Shaw, Don Shaw and Ken Shaw.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pauline Brewer Garner, whom he married on February 25, 1950; three children, Rickie Garner (Kathy), Norma Jean Smith and Brent Raymond Garner, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Beth Garner Gordon (Brian), Benjamin Garner (Erin), Paula Smith and Jessica Smith; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Gordon, Micah Gordon, Kenan Garner and Karis Garner; sisters, Gayle Lamb (Joe) of Wake Forest; brothers, N.A. Garner (Joyce) and James Allen Garner (Bonnie), both of Denton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Nolan’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Heath Church in Lexington with Pastor Dan Downing, Rev. Billy Carey and Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 PM Thursday at the church prior to the service.
