7278 Private Philip Biggins, 3rd Battalion the East Lancashire Regiment. Son of James Biggins (coal miner) and Barbara Biggins (nee Kelly) of Burnley, Lancashire. The battalion, 800 strong, deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War in early 1900 under Colonel J W R Parker of Browsholme Hall and returned in Mar 1902. Private Biggins died of enteric fever (typhoid) at 8/9th General Hospital, Bloemfontein, Orange River Colony on 20 Mar 1901. He was buried on 21 Mar 1901. He is also commemorated on the East Lancashire Regiment Boer War memorial in St Peter's Church, 42 Church Street, Burnley, Lancashire, England (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/271401).
