Curtis Edgar Haugan, 81, of Ottertail, formerly of Underwood, went home to Jesus on Saturday, June 27, 2020, after a short, courageous, hard fought battle with cancer with his family by his side.

Curt was born on June 12, 1939 to Ingolf and Pauline (Glud) Haugan in Brandford Township, Wilkin County, Minnesota.

He attended Campbell school through the eighth grade and went on to work for local farmers and many summers for Bob and Vivian Kugler with his lifelong friend Dave Bauman.
His love of hunting and fishing began at an early age and he even spent a night in a snow cave with his dog “Tiny” during a blizzard. Curt enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1957, earning his GED before being honorably discharged in 1960.
Curt met the love of his life, Linda Lillemoen in August of 1961. They were married November 18, 1961.
He was a jack of many trades, working at Fergus Concrete, Fergus Falls State Hospital, Kimber Awning, and became partners in Haugan and Boe Painting. They painted the clock face at the Fergus Falls City Hall red, white, and blue to commemorate the country’s bicentennial.
Curt was a member of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Posse, which began under Sheriff Carlton Mortensen. He also participated in the peace officer shoots, winning top honors in all classes for his shooting. Being part of the posse gave him another outlet for his love of horses.
He was one of the many founders of the Dusty Trail Riders Saddle Club in Underwood, MN. He raised his daughters, teaching them to ride and train horses, hunt, fish, shoot, drive tractor, and just plain work hard. He made sure that “can’t” and “quit” weren’t in their vocabulary. He also gifted them with love and compassion for animals.
He and Linda enjoyed the road less traveled and taking roads on a whim. They traveled to the Black Hills for their 50th anniversary, Missouri, and Washington. He traveled the ALCAN Highway many times to visit family members who lived in the Anchorage area. He also traveled the country, seeing 45 of the 50 states with his friend Bill Weimer and his Doberman, CoCo in Bill’s 18-wheeler.
He was a member of the Deer Creek American Legion, a life member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association.

Curt is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Linda Haugan; his daughters, Dawn (Alan) Jones of Hollister, Missouri and Jerri (Les) Richards of Wright, MN; grandchildren, Brandon (Shelley), Katelyn (Josh), Shane (Bri), and Jeff (Heather); great-grandchildren, Ivy and Ridley, Linaya, Sophia, Cameron, Myka, Conley, and two great-grandbabies due in July; a brother, Bud Glud; and sisters, Judy (Roger) Biss, Lois (Dave) Susag; brother-in-law, Bud (Bobbie) Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Florence Wehrenberg and Vicky Anderson; nieces Rita and Rosie Wehrenberg; his grandson, Tyler Jones; and sister-in-law, Lila Glud.
