MRS. LAVINIA S. AYER DIES AT AGE 96
Saw Pres. Lincoln Inaugurated. Lived in Boro 50 years.
Mrs. Livina S. Ayer, 96, the oldest member of the Congregational Home of the aged died suddenly yesterday. She was born January 4, 1829 Thompson, Massachusetts and was the widow of Benjamin Ayer. A tea merchant business in Manhattan. Just previous to his death in 1906 the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Ayer spent her early life near Boston. She also attended the inauguration of President Lincoln.
Mrs. Ayer had been a resident of Brooklyn for 50 years and was an active member of the board of managers of the Home of aged men and couples. Classon Avenue for more than 30 years.
She was an honorary member at her death. despite her advanced age she voted at all the elections since equal suffrage and took a keen interest in current happenings. She was a member of the Ocean Avenue Congregational Church and the Rev. G. M. Miller will conduct services at the Congregational Home 123 Linden Avenue tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Interment will be Roxbury, Massachusetts.
