Monteville Ash was named after the founder of Hipp's Chapel; Montville Hipp, according to his grandson. In the book "Ducktown Back In Raht's Time", Mr. Barclay (*Robert Edward Barclay) says circuit riding methodist preacher Montville Hipp, who lived in Ellijay, founded the Hipp's Chapel in Fannin County soon after the Civil War. And also, he had a Hipp's Chapel in Murray County and in the Mountaintown Community of Gilmer County.
