Graduate of Mt. Holyoke Female Seminary (1862). In 1873, at the appeal of Rev. Andrew Murray to open a female seminary in South Africa, she and Abby Ferguson went to Wellington, South Africa and founded Huguenot Seminary (later Huguenot College) as the first women's college in South Africa. In 1910 became the second president of Huguenot College.
