Rolland "Ron" Abel, 87, of Peoria passed away peacefully at UnityPoint Health-Methodist on Monday, March 5, 2018. He was born in Peoria on October 3, 1930, to Rolland S. and Marie (Michaels) Abel. Ron married Ginger (Ricketts) Phipps on December 4, 1985.
Ron is a graduate of St. Joseph Elementary School and Spalding Institute. He then went to Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, for his undergraduate degree and received his Masters Degree from Bradley University in Peoria.
Ron loved to work. Whether he was remodeling something, working with the Boy Scouts, teaching (Sipp), acting as principal (Spartan, Rolling Acres and Kellar), pouring ceramics or farming, he enjoyed it all. He is survived by his wife, Ginger; and his children, Kathleen, Rollie (Michelle), Gary, Mike (Cindy) and Steve Abel, Stephanie (David) Hohmann and Ryan (Jana) Phipps, and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Abel. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Terry.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
