Littleton Madison was the son of Leonard Keeling & Elizabeth Haynes. He married Judith Pamela Ayers on 4 Dec 1846 and they had 14 children, Lucy Elizabeth, James Washington, William Hansell, Milcah Louise, Martha Ann, Eliza Jane, Moses Hendricks, Robert McMillan, Georgia Ann, Leonard Franklin, Thomas Madison, Mary Etta, D. Newton, and Leila Magnolia. During the Civil War, he served in the Currahee Rangers, formed in September of 1861, near the base of Currahee Mountain, near the junction of modern day Banks, Franklin, Habersham, and Stephens Counties in Northeast Georgia. The unit was attached to the 24th Georgia Infantry, being designated as Company H. The unit saw action in some 48 engagements.
