James Owen Deen, 62 of Hortense, GA died Friday morning (August 24, 2007) at his residence following a short illness.

Born in Coffee Co., GA, his parents were Elmer Jackson Deen and Bertie Viola Smith Deen.

Also, preceded in death by a son, Danny Deen, sisters, Jonnie Faye Chaney and Birtie Mae Knight and brothers, Earl and Elmer Julius Deen.

He owned and operated James Deen's Painting for over 30 years. He loved his family and spending time with them and also enjoyed fishing and auto racing.

He is survived by his wife of 40 yrs, Mary Lee Whitley Deen of Waynesville, GA; Children, Michael Amon Griffin (Shaunda) of Waynesville, GA, Deannia Griffin Roberson (Yancey) of Ruffin, SC, Pamela Deen Dutka (Johnny) of Waynesville, GA and Karen Deen Stokes (Frank) of Waynesville, GA; 9 Grandchildren, Mikey Griffin, Mitch Griffin, Whitley Deen, Zachry Dutka, Colby Dutka, Emilee Roberson, Ridge Stokes, Amon Griffin and Carrie Griffin; a Sister, Rebecca Sammons (Don) of Augusta, GA and Elbert Jackson Deen (Judy) of Brunswick, GA; a Sister-in-law, Joan Deen of Brunswick, GA and Brother-in-law, Elbert Knight of Waynesville, GA, also several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be Sunday evening starting 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Chambless-Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta, with Rev. Hinton Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in the family plot at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Waynesville.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Scott, Mikey Griffin, Mitch Griffin, Scott Deen, Chuck Stokes and Charles Stokes.

Honorary pallbearers Marlin Mitchell, Danny Graham, Maxine Graham, Steve Kowalski, Dr. Choeng and Staff, Barbara Chal, Robert Middleton, Little Eddie Middleton, Donald Middleton, Jamie Graham, Dr. Aimee and Staff, Dr. Tripp and Staff. All Honorary are asked to please meet at 12:15 Monday at the Funeral Home.
