MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 24, 1914, page 1: "OBITUARY- Amanda Powers was born in Delaware county, Ohio, 1832 and was raised in Marion County. Was married to Lewis Alder in 1850 and moved to Iowa in 1852; they settled in Mahaska county and lived there until 1871, when they moved to Polk County, where Mr. Alder died in 1879. To this union were born seven children as follows: Dennis W., of Washington; Mary Varner, of Correctionville, Iowa; Ike Alder, formerly of Nebraska, but now deceased; Flora Blinkard, of Montana; Perry Alder, of Mississippi; James L. and Pierce Alder, of Maxwell. Only three of the children, Mrs. Varner, James L. and Pierce Alder, were present at the funeral. In 1892 Mrs. Alder was married to Nathan Palmer, who died in 1900. Mrs. Palmer went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Varner, nearly two years ago, and was at that place when called home on December 3, 1914 . Mrs. Palmer was converted in early youth and was a faithful Christian through life, always kind and doing for others what she to make them happy. The funeral was held at Buena Vista on Monday, December 7th, Rev. A. Q. Garrett officiating and interment was made at Peoria. CARD OF THANKS: We wish to thank the people at Buena Vista and also all friends who were so kind to us during our hour of sorrow. James L. Alder and family, Pierce Alder and family.
