HENNEPIN - George Bachio, 75, of 306 E. Sycamore, Hennepin, Ill., died at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, in St. Margaret Hospital, Spring Valley.

George was born July 9, 1931, in DePue to Phillip and Evadoxia (Ianoedes) Bachio. He married Carol McKnight on July 8, 1961, in Moline.

Mr. Bachio was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

He received his undergraduate degree from Augustana University and a master's degree in education from Western Illinois University. He was a teacher in the Putnam County junior high schools for 27 years, where he also coached baseball and basketball. He was named Baseball Coach of the Year in 1978.

He was a member of St. George Orthodox Church in Spring Valley, where he also served on the church council.

He also was a member of the DePue VFW and he served on the Hennepin Park District Board for many years.

George is survived by his wife, Carol of Hennepin; two sons, Mike and Christie Bachio of Sugar Grove, and John Bachio of Oswego; a daughter, Anne and Ralph Townsend of Streamwood; and three grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. Bachio will be today, Aug. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, with Thrice Holy Prayers at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 11 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Church. Burial will follow at the Serbian Cemetery in DePue, where graveside military rites will be performed by the DePue VFW.
