During high school, Marvin received a full scholarship for basketball to University of Arkansas, where he received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. After college, he was drafted and became a pilot in the Air Force, where he earned a Bronze Star in VietNam. After 22 years in the Air Force, he retired and then began his teaching career.
