Demosthenes Henry Black was born on June 20, 1809 to Peter and Charlotte Boyd Black in Fairfield County, Ohio. His father Pierre or Peter was born in France in 1772. His mother Charlotte was born in 1778 in Pennsylvania.
He married Catherine Sealock April 15, 1834 in Fairfield County Ohio. Two sons were born to them: Peter on Feb 23 1835 and William on July 24, 1836. A daughter, Catherine, was born October 25, 1839. The mother, Catherine, died November 11, 1839.
He married Sarah B Hayes Nov 19, 1840, born in Perry County, Ohio, and moved to Uniondale, Indiana around 1852. They had the following children: Margaret b. 1842, Isaiah b. 1845, John W b. 1847, Leah b 1849, George W b. 1852, Mary Ann b 1859, and Sarah B b. 1863. Catherine Elizabeth Sturgeon b 1843 is also shown living with them in Census Reports.
