Ruth Wight Blackburn, 87, died at Rose Manor Nursing Home. She was a retired Registrar for Transylvania University, born in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late Harry J. and Helen Wight Blackburn.

She received her BA degree in 1957 from Transylvania University and her MBA degree from the University of Kentucky in 1963. She was Admissions Counselor at Transylvania, 1949 -1957, Assistant Secretary to the Dean, College of Commerce, UK, 1957-1965, Adminstrative Asst. to the Vice President and Academic Dean, Transylvania University, 1965-1971, Director of Student Aid, Transylvania, 1971-1973, Registrar, Transylvania, 1973 1980.

After her retirement from Transylvania, she was Secretary to the Bishop of Lexington Episcopal Diocese, and Secretary, First Baptist Church of Lexington. She was a member of Kentucky Business and Professional Women's Club, Past State President of KY Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Past Editor of Kentucky BPW magazine, The Cardinal, member of First United Methodist Church over 50 years, member of United Methodist Women, FUMC, Lexington, Choir and Sunday School Member, FUMC, Lexington, member of Wesleyan Fellowship Circle, UMW, FUMC, Lexington, Past Director of General Board of Global Ministries, Women's Division, United Methodist Church [8 years], Past President of Kentucky Conference United Methodist Women, member of Beta Gamma Sigma, National Business and Economics Honorary, Past Secretary-Treasurer of Beta Gamma Sigma, Trustee of Sue Bennett College, member of Lexington Folk Singers Group, Davidson Senior Music Program, and a Volunteer at High Street Neighborhood Center over 30 years and she was the 1st recipient 2006 for the Heart of High Street Award.

She was survived by a sister-in-law, Mona S. Blackburn, nieces and nephews, Susan and Stephen Riggs, Mari and John Liddle, Dave and Julie Blackburn, John and Joanne Blackburn, David Redwine [deceased], Gail S. and Bill Kirk, twelve great nieces and nephews and four great-great nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary R. Sphar and a brother, David H. Blackburn.
