MIDDLESEX — James David "J.D." Burnette, 92, passed away Wednesday. His funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Middlesex Church of God, 5407 S. N.C. 231, Middlesex. Interment will follow in F.W. Stone Family Cemetery, Stone Heritage Road, Middlesex. The Rev. Ed Toler, Wayne Stone and the Rev. Hollis Fredrick will officiate. The family will receive friends 10 -10:45 a.m. Saturday before the service at Middlesex Church of God, Middlesex. J.D. was born in Nash County June 3, 1924 to the late David R. Burnette and Nanny Vick Burnette. He was the owner of Carolina Car Parts Inc. in Bailey for several years before retirement. J.D. served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He received the EAME Service Medal, with two Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Occupational Medal. J.D. taught Sunday school about 30 years, served as a youth leader and elder at the Middlesex Church of God. He also served on the building committee for the Family Life Center in the early 1990s. J.D. is survived by his wife, C. Jean Stone Burnette of the home; and his sister, Pansy Creech from Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Nanny Burnette; sister, Virginia; and a brother, Harvey.
