Passes Away After Years of Suffering
William Speck, aged 80 years, died at 10 o'clock Sunday morning 6 November 1901, at the Knox County Infirmary, where he had been an inmate since last June. (Death record states he died on 29 December 1901)
He formerly lived in Mt. Vernon. His death was due to bowel trouble, of which he had suffered for many years. (Death record states cause of death was Paralysis)
He was born 22 February 1822 in Guernsey County, Ohio to Augustus and Sarah (Reed) Speck.
Three grown children survive, Clinton (Zoe) Speck and Mrs. Flora (Monroe) Kaufman of Mount Vernon, Ohio and Mrs. Augusta (George) Butler of Sparta, Ohio and 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Sarah (Hugh) Bowers of Antrim, Ohio, two brothers; Silas Speck of Olmitz, Kansas and Isaac George ( Matilda) Speck, of Green Springs, Ohio.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elisabeth (Lewis) Speck, 6 September 1899, three grandchildren, four brothers, Samuel, John, Benjamin, Cyrus and four sisters, Elizabeth, Susan, Mary and Lydia.
Funeral Tuesday 8 November 1901, at 9 am. The Rev J. F. Smith officiating.
Interment at Liberty Chapel Cemetery.
