Rose Mary Cavigli
11/12/1924 - 6/1/2020

Rose Mary Cavigli peacefully passed from this life on Earth to a life in heaven on June 1, 2020. Rose was the eldest of two children born here in America to Italian immigrant parents Severino and Gesuina Cavigli. Born November 12, 1924 on her uncle’s ranch in the Bowman area of Placer County, California. Severino was a line foreman for the Southern Pacific railroad and raised the family in their early years in Clipper Gap.

Rose and her brother John attended the Bowman School until the family moved into a home in Auburn due to her father’s passing in 1938. Rose lived in that home for 75 years of her life. She attended and graduated from both Placer High School and Placer JC. Soon after, Rose began employment with the Pacific Gas & Electric utility company in Auburn. Rose worked there 45 years having a few different job roles. She made many friends through her time there as a woman in the workforce of that growing company, friends that lasted through her whole lifetime. Rose spent a lot of time with family through the years. First with her Uncle Giovanni Cavigli’s family and then later with the families of her cousins for celebrations, holidays, and outings.

Rose was bilingual for most of her life, speaking English and Italian fluently. She loved to visit, often calling her relatives in the Tuscany province of Italy and talking for hours, or calling one of many local friends and chatting into the wee hours of the morning. She also loved to travel and went to many places in the U. S. and of course visited her relatives in Italy a couple of times while in Europe. Rose was a connoisseur of good foods and loved to eat. Even up into her 90’s she could eat with the best of them and never showed it. Amazing! Rose said she never had a green thumb like her mother, but she certainly kept her hillside on the edge of Auburn Ravine pruned, weeded, and well-watered, with paths she crisscrossed for most of her life. Rose was also an active member of the Auburn Historical Society for many years.

The only thing that really slowed her down was macular degeneration that eventually took away her ability to see. Rose enrolled in classes made available by the Center for Visually Impaired Adults in Auburn which helped her greatly to perform simple tasks and organize her life as her inability to see increased. Rose did not marry and lived a very full and long life in Auburn. In the very winter of her life she heard the good news of Jesus Christ and believed it. Looking for peace, she found it in Him. Rose, at 95 years of age, was the last of her immediate family to pass.

Rose is survived by her nephew Jon Cavigli and family of Kalispell, MT; niece Carrie Shields and family of Las Vegas, NV; nephew Gary Woodsmall and family of Cambria, CA; and her cousins Dureta and Jim Kearney and family of Lincoln; Susan Barudoni of Roseville; Susie and Ray Greenhouse and family of Rocklin.
