CAMPOBELLO, SC - Horace "Bootie" Elijah Gaines, 85, of 425 Goodjoin Road, died January 16, 2006, at Camp Care Nursing Home.
A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Nolan and Nancy Clayton Gaines, he was a retired peach farmer and retired from the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service Office, a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, and a charter member of Holly Springs-Motlow Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife, Eunice Farmer Gaines of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Johnnie Kennerly of Campobello; a sister Betty Anderson of Campobello; and two grandchildren, John and Lauren Kennerly.
Mr. Gaines was predeceased by two sisters, Lettie Staton and Frances Wolfe; and four brothers, Tracy, Hartwell, Eugene and Lewis Gaines.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Holly Springs Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Tim Clark. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dan Sloan, George Souther, Willie Souther, Jerry Gaines, Gaines Wolfe and Andy West.
Honorary escort will be Ray Gaines, Lewis Clayton, Ray Staton, Holly Springs-Motlow Ruritan Club and general officers of the Holly Springs Baptist Church Sunday School Department.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Holly Springs Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of his sister, Betty Anderson, 545 Goodjoin Road, Campobello, S.C.
