AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Eugenia Ball McCrary, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at University Hospital. The memorial service will be held on Friday, September 21 at 11:00am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Augusta. Mrs. McCrary was born in Atlanta and raised in Jackson, Georgia. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Otis Ball of Jackson, and attended Jackson High School. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. After college, Mrs. McCrary married Robert E. McCrary, Jr. in 1958. She and her husband moved briefly to California and Texas during his service with the U.S. Navy, and they eventually settled in Augusta in 1964. In 1967, she began her career as a school teacher at Episcopal Day School, where she taught for 19 years. After retiring from teaching, Mrs. McCrary worked in several roles that appealed to her passion for travel. Mrs. McCrary was also a member of the Junior League of Augusta, as well as the Heart Fund, Girls' Club of Augusta, and the Youth Development Center. In addition to her love of travel, she was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting antiques. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Ball.

Surviving family members include her husband of 54 years, Robert E. McCrary, Jr., her brother, Henry Otis Ball, and her children, Laura McCrary Hurban (Robert), Robert E. McCrary III (Beverly), William Brock McCrary, Sara McCrary Abele (Kenneth), and her 8 grandchildren, Mary English Saunders, John Kasey Saunders, Jr., Kirsten Lacy McCrary, Robert Emmett McCrary IV, Bentley Madison McCrary, Cecilia Maddox McCrary, Benjamin Ware Abele, and Frances Stilwell Abele.
