On Sunday, March 29, 2020, Mary Martha Newland passed away in Bay City, Texas at the age of 97 years old.
Mary was born on August 6, 1922 in Mattoon, IL to Charles and Bertha (Cavanaugh) Newland.
After graduating from Mattoon High School, Mary pursued her dreams by first moving to Chicago then on to New York City. She retired from Esquire Magazine in 1985 after having risen to assistant vice president personnel director. Mary continued to live in New York City until moving to Texas to be near family in 2012.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Charles Howard, her brothers Harold and John (Jack) and her sister Bertha Jane Newland Horsley. She leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held at Calvary Cemetery in Mattoon.
