BRISTOL — Kathi (Gardiner) Albert, 46, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at her home surrounded by family. Kathi was born in Bristol on March 11, 1961, and was the daughter of William J. Sr. and Nancy (Knott) Gardiner of Bristol. She graduated from Terryville High School in 1979 and went on to attend Quinnipiac College. After obtaining her R.N. degree she was invited to stay on at New Britain General Hospital where she worked for six years, ultimately in the recovery room.
Kathi fought through five brain surgeries and endured unbelievable obstacles. She did it all with a smile on her face, never uttering an unkind word. In declining health, Kathi spent most of her time with her parents. She loved doing puzzles and wordbooks.
In addition to her loving parents, Kathi leaves behind a beautiful daughter, Amy E. Albert, who will be returning to the University of Colorado for her senior year where she will graduate with a master's degree in Finance. She also is survived by three brothers, James Gardiner of Fairfield, Kenneth Gardiner of Terryville, and William J. Gardiner Jr. of Cape Carteret, N, C,; and her nieces and nephews, Shannon, Kenny, Katie, Sarah, Jessica, Matthew, Summer, Makaela and Austin.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Spas who oversaw Kathi's care through the course of her 21-year battle with brain cancer. Thanks to Dr. Holmes and the staff of New Britain General Hospital for their loving care time and again. Many thanks also to the close friends who have supported the family in the past few weeks, and to those who befriended and brought so much joy to Kathi throughout her illness. "We will miss you all the time."
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Bristol. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 173 Summer St., Bristol 06010; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden 06450-1004.
