Obituary for George Washington Minghini
George Washington Minghini, 88, of Inwood passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Berkeley Springs Center, LLC.

Born October 2, 1931 in Ganotown, he was the son of the late Charles B. “Carl” Minghini and Anna Gertrude “Gertie” Murphy Minghini of Ganotown.

He was a member of Ganotown United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and caretaker. He was a charter member of the Back Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company. He was a lifetime member of the Back Creek Valley Bow and Gun Club where he served as treasure for a number of years and served on the board of directors.

George worked various jobs in his lifetime. At age 10, he helped his father drag logs with mules for the sawmill lumber on the mountain land now known as Glenwood Forrest. He worked one year at the shipyards at Dundulk, MD. He and his wife, Lula, owned and operated Minghini’s Grocery, at the corner of Glengary crossroads from 1962 to 1972. He also leased and operated Glaze Brother’s Orchard at Ganotown while working at Dupont.

George retired in 1991 from Dupont after 38 years. After retirement, he continued to work helping his brother, James “JB” at the sawmill for 5 years. He continued to be active doing odds and ends until 2016. He enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling with his sons. George owned an ultralight plane, learning to fly at the age of 60, in which he enjoyed very much. His other joy was his three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife,of 70 years, Lula Mae Dunham Minghini, who would of celebrated 71 years on June 19; two sons, Wayne L. Minghini (Karen) of Inwood, Joey D. Minghini (Marci) of Hedgesville; grandchildren, Chad D. Minghini (Ashley), Candance Jo Wood (Matt), and Ayla J. Minghini, all of Hedgesville; great-grandchildren, twins Baylee and Preslee Minghini and Zoey Wood, all of Hedgesville; one sister, Dorothy Manuel of Orange City, FL; and sister-in-law Virginia “Mae” Minghini, of Hedgesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James “JB” Minghini and Ralph Minighini, Sr.; half-brothers, Arthur, Chester, Thomas, Clemon, Lee, Harry, Roy Minghini and Slamen Murphy; sisters, Rosalie Caton and Pauline Siviero; and half-sister, Grace Delawder.

The Brown Funeral Home will be open for family to receive friends only from the hours of 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Brown funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood. Visitors will be required to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and follow directives. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Central Chapel Cemetery in Ganotown.
