After staying at home for many years to raise her family, Melanie returned to work at Kmart in Springfield for 10 years and then obtained a position at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1989. She retired in 2009. She will be remembered for her kindness, patience, and love of her family and friends.
A very caring and loving person, Melanie’s generosity and dedication to those she knew was seemingly endless. She was an amazing wife and mother and was known for her amazing treats and desserts; including her famous chocolate chip cookies, coffee cakes, apple, blueberry and strawberry rhubarb pies as well as her brownies called boards were loved by her husband and one of his closest friends. Melanie’s life was built on her love for her family. Over the years, she enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings. Enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Sturbridge. She and her husband were members of the Connecticut Valley Region Car Club and attended car shows and overnight trips with their antique cars. She loved to cruise with her husband and family where she enjoyed the ship’s daily trivia and bingo; Bermuda was one of her favorites. Family trips were enjoyed as well to places like PA Dutch Country, Texas to visit family, Canada, Washington DC and many other places of interest. In her later years, the center of her life was watching her grandchildren grow up. She enjoyed watching them participate in sports soccer, basketball, softball, baseball and musical performances. A special thank you to her sister Sandy for spending countless days and nights with Melanie during her illness our family appreciates it more than we can put into words, we love you. She was deeply devoted to her faith, a longtime communicant of Saint Patrick’s Parish in Springfield, a member of the St. Patrick’s Women’s Guild and a member of the Springfield Golden Agers Club. Mom to say thank you for all that you have done for would not be enough. We love you more than you could know and more than we could ever show. We will always love you and you will be in our hearts forever. Your strength will endure forever in us, our memories surround us. Now go on your new journey and enjoy your time with your family and friends that have gone before. You’re dancing with the angels and heaven fills your eyes, one day we’ll see you again. Love you the mostest. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, June 9th from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to follow at 12 noon in St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen St., both in Springfield.
