Karen Kay Larson 1947–2020 Elgin—Karen Kay Larson, 72, of Elgin passed away at her home on Tuesday morning June 2, 2020. She was born December 9, 1947 in Owatonna to Lloyd and Elmira (Stegner) Barker. She graduated from Medford High School and then from Winona State University earning a teachers degree. She married Clayton Larson on August 9, 1969 in Medford. He died in 1993. She married Richard Harwood on May 27, 2017 in Wabasha. Karen began her teaching career at Kasson where she taught for one year and then taught math and business in Rochester the school district for 32 years until her retirement in 2001. Karen was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview. She had many interests throughout her life. Playing bridge, snow skiing, snowmobiling, waterskiing, collecting beanie babies, Hummel's and fine china plates. She enjoyed spending time boating and camping on the Mississippi River, playing golf in her "Special Foursome "and spending winters in Florida. She loved watching birds, the Minnesota Twins the Vikings and going to Breezy Point. Karen is survived by her husband, Richard Harwood of Elgin; step-children Kris (John) Keefe and Jeffrey (JoAnn) Harwood all of Rochester; brother, Daniel (Sandy) Barker of Medford; nephew, Kelly (Jackie) Barker and niece Stacy (Robert) Barbeau. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband Clayton Larson. Private graveside services will be in East St Olaf Cemetery at Rock Dell, with Pastor Krista Henning-Ferkin officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
